Peaking Plants

 In the early stages of the California energy crisis, DG Power was awarded seven contracts by the California Independent System Operator to construct fast-track 49MW peaking plants. Five of those plants were completed with Pratt & Whitney FT-8 equipment, under the name CalPeak Power. Three of these are located in San Diego Gas & Electric Company’s service territory – Border, El Cajon and Escondido. Two are in Pacific Gas & Electric Company’s service territory – Panoche and Vaca-Dixon. Since commissioning as 49.9MW facilities, they have been uprated to 55MW.
